Elche, a little further away!
Elche is called the special ‘City of the Palms’. It is both an industrial and tourist village, both modern and faithful to the traditions, directly by the sea and palm trees. The wonderful climate and other characteristics of Elche is highly recommended to make a day trip.
The pleasant climate invites to enjoy together in the outdoor, the nature and the kind hospitality of the locals.
As you stroll through the city you’ll find that Elche has an Arabic history which enhances the atmosphere in this town. One of the most special places in Elche is the ‘Palmeral de Elche’; with over 200.000 palm trees is this place one of the largest palm gardens in the world.
In the garden you can find a very special palm tree: the Palmera Imperial. This palm is the only palm tree in the world with seven tribes and the appearance of a candle stick. Since 2000, the palm garden is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Besides the trees there are plenty of other opportunities to do in the park: many pigeons and ducks that may be made, a square where are held concerts regularly, a restaurant and a visitor centre. The visitor center is called ‘El Huevo’ (the egg) and is recognizable by it’s round, white shape.
Elche is a must-go for one day!
To visit Elche we recommend to rent a car. It’s easier by car than public transportation.
