Villajoyosa, close to Benidorm!

Villajoyosa or ‘La Vila Joiosa’ as it is called by the local people in Valencian literally means the ‘joyful village’ and it is known as one of the most beautiful villages on the Costa Blanca.

The golden sandy beach of Villajoyosa is 3.5 kilometers long and some places has the width direction of a hundred meters. This pretty village also has a lovely marina, a beach front promenade all along the central beach and the iconic multi coloured houses of the fisherman. This gives a unique and totally recognizable face. The reason that the houses have such a characteristic appearance is for the fishermen. The fisherman could easily see this from the sea where they had to go. Nowadays this part of Villajoyosa has mainly a tourist function.

Villajoyosa is also well know for the Gothic Parish Church, but as least as impressive is the picturesque old centre of Villajoyosa.

This lovely village has many restaurants and cafes and it is a lovely place to visit and enjoy some good and fresh fish at the end of the day.

Villajoyosa has also several chocolate factories where they still make – traditionally -chocolate. You can visit the Valor Factory regularly.

Every Thursday there is a market, near to the train station. From Benidorm it is easy to visit the market by train, but also the bus stops nearby the market.

Please also visit:
AlbirAltea, Polop, Guadalest,
Finestrat, Calpe and Fuentes del Algar.
